I have an education in industrial economics and technology management from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology and began as a Trainee in First Securities in the autumn of 2008.
As a Trainee in First Securities, we get to work closely together with other skilled and friendly people. The senior analysts assign us various, exciting tasks where we are able to apply our skills. Even when we’re in the thick of it, we can always get the help we need and answers we can rely on.
A typical workday begins by preparing the daily morning meeting where the analysts present comments and recommendations regarding their companies. This session offers us trainees a great opportunity to become familiar with the various branches and companies that we do not work with everyday. The rest of the day varies; it may involve everything from taking part in quarterly presentations in companies, customer meetings, to working in the office of course where, among other things, we perform information searches on individual companies and branches, construct and update models and illustrate results in graphs and presentations.
The trainee programme gives us the opportunities to attain solid knowledge of the financial industry and understand how a broking team works, while also getting a very good understanding of business and the industry in general. The programme is arranged in such a way that trainees are able to circulate among various departments and sectors in order to be able to learn as much as possible; this allows us to explore our options and discover what seems most interesting to us. The departments you rotate among and how often is largely dependent on what the trainee himself or herself wants to do.
